The answer: Probably.

This will have a vast and mostly negative impact on our entire country, which has built platforms and stability. Without question, #booktok will be significantly affected after thriving on TikTok’s algorithm and engagement tools. TikTok has become a major source of connection for people, and if it leaves, there will be a void that other platforms may struggle to fill.
#BookTok is our favorite subculture, where we get to create content promoting books, authors, and reading. Over the past few years, #BookTok has become a phenomenon, driving major sales for novels and even pushing relatively unknown books to the top of the bestseller lists.
One time, I was the recipient of this incredible boost and watched The Way We Fight climb into the top 400 on Amazon. I will forever be thankful for that moment in my career and the positive feedback from readers who fell in love with my writing.
But that moment was fleeting. Gone before I could even realize what was happening. Because of that, I didn't soak it in and enjoy it the way I should have. For the following two years, I tried to recreate that high by posting, hiring someone to post for me, and constantly searching for and approving new content.
It left very little time for writing. Not to mention, it became tedious and, in my case, useless.
I am NOT happy to see Tiktok leave. In fact, I'm scared of what this means for so many people who have made their livelihoods on the content they create. My lack of success means I won't see much difference, but what about those who have? Who has learned and cultivated a following?
For me, life will go on. I will not be joining any other social media platforms at this time, though. I will be writing and focusing on things I know how to do. I will be blogging, pinning, and using Instagram to communicate with the masses. If you haven't yet, please join my reader group on Facebook. This is my safe place, where we can discuss anything and never be judged. I have amazing admins who create daily content to keep people engaged and give them a place to feel safe.
Publishers: I hope you continue to find us out here. Books that hit all the right feels, with specific niches, written by us indie authors who will no longer have our biggest "see me" platform in an industry that requires you to SEE US!
Sending my love to everyone,
Katie
